Hello, I am Mrs. Chrissy Kortenhoeven and I have been teaching for 17 years. I have taught all ages and across grade levels. It has been a wonderful blessing to be a teacher and work with the students and families here at Rancho Christian Middle School. This is truly a place where your child(ren) will be loved and will receive a premier education.
I graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Diversified Education in 1992, where I also received a Clear Multiple Subject California Teaching Credential, as well as a Supplementary English Credential. Additionally, I received a Supplementary Art Credential.
I have three credentials from ACSI, as well: the Elementary credential, Secondary English credential, and School Counselor Specialist.
In 2002, I received my Master of Science in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton.
I have a deep breadth of teaching experience, as I have taught in the public school (Four years at East Whittier City School District and four years at Lowell Joint School District), homeschool, and Christian school. I have taught First Grade, Second Grade, Jr. High Art Teacher, 7th Grade English, and Jr. High Spanish 1 Teacher. I am passionate about Classical Christian Education. I spent 5 years teaching an Essentials of the English Language class which focused on grammar and writing instruction from Andrew Pudewa, founder of the Institute of Excellence of Writing. I have also taught high school students through Classical Conversations. I instructed them classically with socratic circles and taught Latin, Economics, Philosophy, Algebra 1, American Government, American Literature, Drama, Debate, and Apologia Physical Science.
My husband and I have been blessed with four children. Our four children attend Rancho Christian. We have a son in high school, daughter in middle school, son in elementary, and our youngest daughter in the preschool. We are enjoying watching our children participate in sports, cheerleading, and band at Rancho Christian.
My heart is to connect with the students on a deep level, and point them to Christ. My desire is that they walk away knowing more about God and His deep love for them, they treasure God's word in their heart, and that they love the Lord their God with all their heart, all their soul, all their strength and all their might, and that they love one another.
Every subject is integrated and taught from a Biblical World View which
points to our Creator. Children will be given the opportunity to excel at Rancho Christian Middle School. Children will be given differentiated instruction based upon their learning modalities and needs.

Classical Education
The goal of Christian Classical Education is to know God and make Him known. God's beauty and truth is hidden in every subject. It is our pleasure as students and teachers to discover Him as we learn. Our studies should also prepare us to reason clearly, speak eloquently, calculate accurately, and write convincingly so that we have the ability to make God known to others. Each child is uniquely and wonderfully made. Within the framework of a Biblical worldview, the classical model provides children with the tools to learn any subject. The classical model, known as the trivium, divides learning into three stages: the grammar stage -memorizing facts, the dialectic stage - discovering how the facts relate, an d the rhetoric stage -applying the facts. The Bible refers to these stages in Proverbs 24: 3-4 as knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. (www.ClassicalConversations.com) |
